Ahhhhh us females! Aren't we built just so perfectly complicated & amazing?!

We all know how it begins...puberty & the crazy moods. Periods - bring on pimples, cramps, boob pain, nausea for some (ME) ovulation pain. We're happy & sad & mad. We can laugh and cry at the same time, Pregnancy includes pretty much all of the above and more! Then there's menopause, I'm not there yet but from what I hear it's similar to the above but like being in a blender with the lid off and there is no predicting the hot flashes.

I've been through my share of above. Things got completely out of whack after months of fertility treatments followed by a devastating "missed miscarriage" resulting in a D & C at 14 weeks with my second child. About a year later we started up the fertility injections again, and again, and again.....until I felt so out of balance we decided to finish our infertility chapter.

Although being able to make that decision was strangely empowering I needed to get back on track. My periods were all over the place and I felt like I was in a constant state of PMS! yuck!!!!

I had been a member of Young Living for quite a while at this point, and I just knew there had to be a healthy alternative for me. Thankfully I am part of a pretty amazing group of women and was able to get so much valuable information from them. I came up with my own balanced solution, and it took about 3 months to get back to a 28 day schedule and feeling back to normal. This helped me get started on the process on working through my grief.

Do you ever get to that point of burnout and you just know you need a break? That's where I was at so I took a week off work to rest up for our upcoming busy investment season. We had no plans to go anywhere which was perfect because the island got slammed with snow and the roads were awful, if you've ever been to Vancouver Island you'll understand why we hunker down.

Usually when I take time off work I keep Abigail home so we can have some quality time together. Mum guilt is real my friends when you work full-time! This round I decided to keep Abigail in daycare so we could get some organizing done around the house. I got together my first box for the thrift store and then spent the rest of the morning reading a book. It was fantastic and I quickly got over the guilt. Then the snow came, daycare was closed and we spend ALL day outside sledding and playing in the backyard. I knew I was coming down with something but snow doesn't last very long on the North end so you take it all in, and we had two amazing snow days! Thankfully the rains came the next day and the cold finally caught me. No smell, no taste, I felt like everything was going to explode in my head. Not the best way to end vacation time but I'm thankful it happened towards the end so we could spend those two days making memories!

I've seriously been dripping R.C. directly on my chest, putting Peppermint on the back of my neck and temples and diffusing Thieves & Lemon. I was so desperate to smell something last night I put peppermint inside my nose - DO NOT DO THIS! I could not smell it but it was awful, I knew it was wrong, I knew I shouldn't do it but I did and it BURNED! I am back to work tomorrow, I don't have time to be sick and obviously I make really poor decisions when I am under the weather. Adult Breathe Cream

2 tbsp Coconut oil 15 drops RC 6 drops Peppermint 7 drops Frankincense 8 drops Eucalyptus 5 drops Thieves

Kids Breathe Cream

4 tbsp Coconut oil 20 drops RC 7 drops Frankincense 7 drops Lavender 10 drops Peppermint

Whip coconut oil and essential oils together with a small whisk and store in a small glass jar.

Starting out with Essential oils can be so overwhelming at first. You know that they're good and you want to use them but your life is busy and knowing where to start can be tough!

When I first got started with essential oils I had NO idea what to do with them! I knew that there were benefits but what oil should I choose to help my 2 year old sleep, or how do I use them to help me calm down when I'm stressed? The first night I had about a dozen bottles of oil spread out across my daughters bedroom floor while she joyfully jumped on her bed. I had the laptop on her floor and my friend on chat, the clock was against us again for getting a good nights sleep and I had a crazy day ahead of me at the office the following day. Sleep was my focus, I was missing it hard!

At the risk of looking like a crazy priest performing an exorcism on my child I needed to break it down into a few simple steps over the next few nights.

The Breakdown

I had a huge list of ailments that I wanted to use oils for but breaking it down to just a few helped me absorb the info much better. Focus one - Sleep!

I took out 3 oils that I knew promoted calmness and sleep. Lavender, Frankincense and Gentle Baby. I had the diffuser going with a couple drops each of Lavender and Frankincense as I sat on the bed with my daughter reading her a Peppa Pig story rolling Gentle Baby on her feet, it tickled and she got hyper, I put a drop of Frankincense in the palms of my hands and cupped them over my nose and mouth taking in a few deep breaths reminding myself that she is only two and still learning. I then rubbed my hands through her hair and added a drop of lavender to the mix. I'm not going to fluff this one up, it was not a magic cure to get the toddler to sleep but what I noticed with this breakdown was that I felt much calmer and focused rather than being on the brink of a mental breakdown so the first few nights were essentially benefiting me more at this point. Then each night I realized that the amount of time I was spending trying to get her to sleep were getting shorter, the tears were slowly drying up, the mum doubt that creeps up on us was fading and before I knew it the 2 (sometimes 3) hour bedtime marathon had shrunk down to 30 minutes! It was my holy shit moment! Now I could figure out how to incorporate oils to assist with daytime energy!

Remember it's all about taking that time to find what works for you!

Prioritize your wants and needs and pick just one to work with. Hit up Google or a Facebook resource group and find just 2-3 oils that reference to your need. Use a protocol for 1-2 weeks and write down what worked for you and what didn't. Then move onto the next.

If you are simply using essential oils to make your home or office smell pretty take out an individual oil and inhale directly from the bottle for about 30 seconds and take a mental note as to which ones you are drawn to more. Another great tip is if you aren't partial to a certain scent like Frankincense for example , open a second bottle like lavender or another favouite and wave them both under your nose, you might find that some just need a partner.
